all have 'nesting' inclinations. Some people can afford more flamboyant
nests than others. We at Plum Design attempt to provide
designs that make nests unique but affordable.
Plum
designs for clients with architectural sophistication but limited financial
resources. Low
budgets do not preclude discriminating tastes. We aim to design neat homes
within the constraints of each client's available finances. Our primary concern
is with what one can afford to build, and how we can accommodate one's dreams
within these monetary restrictions.
Because
we have actually 'hands-on' built most of our designs, we understand the savings
on labour costs by designing to 2ft multiples thereby reducing material waste
and measuring errors. Our designs are easy to build and our repetitive dimensions
ensure minimum mistakes.
We
aim for 'low-to-no maintenance'. Plum
Design embraces the 'form follows function' design
prescription (Wright).
Check our designs paying attention to 'traffic flow'.
We
also agree that 'less is
more' (Mies) and believe our house designs work best when minimally
furnished. Consequently our designs incorporate plenty of closet space.

If you fancy one of our existing designs we'll sell you the construction plans
for US$1,000 or alter them to suit your needs
and budget - for an upfront agreed on alteration fee. The houses shown on
this web site have all been designed for specific lots. If you fancy one of
these existing designs, send us the street address of your lot so that we
can locate your lot on Google Earth and then tell you if we think the design
will fit comfortably on your lot. If not, we'll suggest alterations we can
make to the design - we'll give you a fixed cost for the alterations before
we start - based on our time at $50 an hour.
Our
3D drawings on this web site provide sufficient detail for you to clearly
visualize the traffic flow and spatial volumes in our designs. We want viewers
to explore our designs to appreciate how the simplicity provides interesting
volumes and makes for efficient living.
